Though defined as a physical aspect; pretty means different things to different people. Historically the aesthetics of black women had not be seen in this way in mainstream society.
“Pretty”, Singer, Songwriter, and Performer, Tamara Wellons,’ third studio album is themed from a conversation about cultural influences around beauty, racial history, and self-confidence. Issues many women and girls are struggling with.
Like many women, Tamara experienced a massive restart in her personal life, and this feeling of promise and reemergence permeates the album. Tamara tackles the misconceptions around this word in “Pretty” Episode One.
As we wrap up Women’s History Month, the staff at CiTLR wants to remind everyone of you, that you are pretty in every way. Your passion, your intelligence, your giving and nurturing spirits; Pretty.
